Blizzard may have unintentionally revealed a significant new feature for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, The War Within—the ability for Dracthyr to choose classes other than the Evoker. This revelation came from a recent episode of the WoWCast, where an image of the game’s new account-wide Warbands login screen was showcased.

A New Class for Dracthyr?

In the WoWCast episode, the image featured four characters gathered around a campfire, one of whom was a Dracthyr. What caught the community’s attention was that this Dracthyr was not wielding the usual caster weapons associated with Evokers. Instead, the character was equipped with two massive axes, leading fans to speculate that the Dracthyr could be a Warrior—a class currently unavailable to this race.

This image has fueled speculation that Blizzard might be planning to lift the Evoker-only class restriction for Dracthyr, either at the launch of The War Within or shortly thereafter. Blizzard had previously hinted at expanding class options for Dracthyr in the future, though they had not committed to this feature being available at the expansion’s release.

A Pattern of Teases

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Blizzard has teased the possibility of Dracthyr playing other classes. During BlizzCon 2023, a Warbands interface mockup featured a Dracthyr character wearing leather armor—gear not typically associated with Evokers, who traditionally wear mail armor. At the time, Blizzard dismissed this as an oversight, but with this recent image, fans are beginning to think these “oversights” might be deliberate hints.

As Blizzard has not officially confirmed this new feature, the specific classes that might become available to Dracthyr remain unknown. However, the company has been moving toward allowing most races to play as most classes in recent years, so this development would be consistent with that trend.

Other New Features in The War Within

The War Within, WoW’s 10th expansion, is set to introduce a variety of new features, including the addition of a new playable race called the Earthen. Some fans speculate that another, yet-to-be-announced playable race could also be introduced during the expansion. Additionally, players can look forward to a new form of endgame content that can be completed solo, along with the introduction of Hero Talent trees for each class.

The War Within is scheduled for release on August 26, with early access available starting on August 23 for those who purchase the game’s digital epic or physical 20th anniversary collector’s edition.

Final Thoughts

While Blizzard has not officially confirmed the ability for Dracthyr to choose new classes, the evidence from recent WoWCast images suggests that this feature may be on the horizon. As World of Warcraft continues to evolve, The War Within promises to bring exciting new content and features that could significantly change the way players experience the game. Stay tuned for more updates as the expansion’s release date approaches.
