About Fortnite

Fortnite is a battle royale game developed and published by Epic Games. The game is known for its vibrant graphics, engaging gameplay, and regular updates that introduce new content and features.

April 30 Update Changes

In the latest update on April 30, Epic Games added two emotes that play music by David 'D4vd' Burke: Feel It and Trophy Drop. However, due to serious legal issues surrounding Burke, Epic has implemented a setting called See Confrontational Emotes. This setting, which is turned on by default, allows players to hide D4vd's emotes unless they choose to turn it off.

Previously, the See Confrontational Emotes setting included only four emotes: Laugh It Up, Take the L, Whipcrack, and Make It Plantain. Now, players will see D4vd's emotes only if they encounter someone who has them equipped and the setting is turned off. This change means that while players who own the emotes can still use them, many others may never see them in action.

Community Reaction

The community response has been largely negative regarding D4vd's continued presence in the game. Fans express growing anxiety about his association with Fortnite, particularly following the serious charges against him related to the disappearance of Celeste Rivas, a 14-year-old girl. Seven months after Rivas's decomposing body was reportedly found, players are calling for Epic Games to take more decisive action. Some comments reflect this frustration: one YouTube commenter stated,

"7 months later still asking you to delete this."
Another observed,
"Ain't no way they still have this up."

Discussions on platforms like Reddit reveal a divide among fans. One user articulated the conflict many feel:

"And so what if I want to see take the L and laugh it up because they are some of the most iconic Fortnite emotes ever made but not the emotes of a literal murderer lmao."
Such sentiments highlight the tension between nostalgia for classic emotes and the reality of the serious allegations against Burke.

What This Means for Players

Epic Games appears hesitant to fully sever ties with D4vd despite the ongoing legal turmoil. The continued availability of his content, including promotional videos on YouTube and the association with the Fortnite anthem, raises questions about the company’s judgment. While some players appreciate the attempt to obscure the emotes behind a setting, others feel it falls short of addressing the larger issue of appropriateness in the game's content.

As more details about Burke's case emerge, including multiple charges related to Rivas's disappearance, fans are increasingly vocal about needing a more substantial response from Epic. The balance between maintaining a popular character and ensuring community standards is delicate, and it remains to be seen how Epic will navigate this situation moving forward.
