Impressive Sales Figures
Slay the Spire 2 has emerged as March's biggest-selling game on Steam, topping notable releases like Crimson Desert and Resident Evil Requiem. The game, which launched in early access, reportedly sold around 5.3 million copies, generating an estimated revenue of $108 million (£81.7 million).
Comparative Sales Analysis
According to Alinea Analytics, Crimson Desert followed with approximately 1.9 million copies sold, while both Climber Animals Together and Resident Evil Requiem managed 1.2 million each. Resident Evil 3 Remake, meanwhile, sold just shy of a million units.
Rhys Elliott, an analyst, stated, "Mega Crit's Slay the Spire 2 moved a nuts (but deserved) 5.3M copies in March for its early-access debut. All this is to say that Slay the Spire 2 easily takes Steam's #1 copies sold spot for March." The game's performance is particularly noteworthy given its competition.
The Rise of Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert, despite a mixed initial launch, has gained traction with a strong community presence and effective word-of-mouth marketing. Elliott noted, "The game's community management has been frankly incredible so far. Crimson Desert is now firmly established as a permanent IP and will go down as one of 2026's defining success stories when all is said and done." This sentiment reflects the potential longevity of this title.
Climber Animals Together's Viral Success
In third place, Climber Animals Together has achieved notable success as a "friendslop" game. Following a quiet debut, it exploded in popularity thanks to effective self-release strategies in China. However, it generated under $6 million in March revenue due to its low price point.
Resident Evil Requiem's Performance
Resident Evil Requiem continues to make waves, contributing to the franchise's strong performance on Steam. With sales reaching 1.2 million, it generated around $70 million (£53 million). The success of Requiem has also positively impacted sales for Resident Evil 3 Remake, which benefited from a heavy discount, boosting its visibility.
Slay the Spire 2's Ongoing Improvements
In addition to its sales success, Slay the Spire 2 recently released a beta patch that reverted several changes made in a previous update. This includes adjustments to cards like Prepared (Silent) and Capture Spirit (Necrobinder), showcasing the developers' commitment to player feedback.
Within just two weeks of its launch, Slay the Spire 2 surpassed the revenue generated by other anticipated titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades 2 on Steam. The game's rapid ascent marks a noteworthy achievement in a competitive market.
