Fortnite OG Launch Saw “Biggest Day” in the Game’s History
Fortnite OG, the event that brought the game back to its Chapter 1 roots, has been a runaway success. According to Epic Games, over 44.7 million players logged in on Sunday, making it the most successful day in Fortnite’s history. This far exceeded even the numbers for high-profile events like the Travis Scott concert.
The event’s popularity has reignited calls for Fortnite OG to become a permanent addition to the game. Players are clearly enjoying the trip down memory lane, but Epic Games has remained tight-lipped about the event’s future. As of now, it is still set to disappear on December 2, making way for the next chapter.
Despite its limited availability, Fortnite OG has been Epic Games’ most successful event yet. “We’re blown away by the response to #FortniteOG,” the company wrote on Twitter. “Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite’s history with over 44.7 MILLION players jumping in and 102 MILLION hours of play.”
In addition to the massive number of players, Fortnite OG also broke the game’s concurrent player record. On Sunday, more than six million players logged in at once, the highest amount since records were made public. This beat the previous record by a staggering two million.
The event’s success may have also resolved a minor plot hole in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame. In the film, Thor and his pals can be seen playing Fortnite Chapter 1. Since the scene takes place in November 2023, the release of Fortnite OG now makes sense.
Despite some controversy surrounding the season’s monetization, Fortnite OG has been a resounding success. The new battle pass has only half the amount of rewards as previous passes but still costs the usual 950 V-bucks. However, with calls to extend the season, it’s possible that more rewards could be added.
The map for the next chapter has already leaked, suggesting that Epic Games is planning to end Fortnite OG on December 2. However, the event’s success likely means that we can expect Epic to capitalize on nostalgia in the future, potentially bringing back previous seasons for those who miss the good ol’ days.
Final Thoughts
Fortnite OG has been a huge success for Epic Games, breaking records and reigniting player interest. The event’s popularity shows that there is still a strong demand for classic Fortnite experiences. While it’s unclear if Fortnite OG will become permanent, it’s likely that we’ll see more nostalgic events from Epic Games in the future.
