Popular survival title 7 Days to Die has been smashing player count records since its 1.0 release on PC and consoles on July 25, 2024. Despite being unavailable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the full launch of 7 Days to Die is witnessing record numbers of players across the platforms where it’s available.
Originally released in early access in December 2013, the game pits players against waves of zombies as they find shelter and accumulate necessary supplies. The early access period for 7 Days to Die lasted 10 years before the title finally released version 1.0, and during that time, 18 million copies were sold. Many fans have since added it to the list of defining games in the survival horror genre.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Announced on the official 7 Days to Die Twitter account, the game has been breaking player count records in its first 10 days of version 1.0, with over 270,000 players on all platforms attempting to survive the first Blood Moon. The 1.0 version introduces several changes from the early access period that enhance the player experience, including limiting trader missions. While the console versions of the game are the same as the PC version, some features are missing from the Xbox Series X/S.
Enhanced Xbox Experience
The 2016 Xbox One version of the game was a watered-down version of what PC players experienced, featuring limited mechanics and updates that ceased just a year after launch. For the 1.0 release, the development team has committed to keeping the Xbox Series X/S version as close as possible to the PC release. This allows many Xbox players to experience certain features for the first time, even if they’re not new to the game itself.
According to PureXbox news, a few features are missing from the current Xbox version. These include editors for the world or level, crossplay, and random maps, with the launch version instead coming with pre-generated maps. Random maps are said to be coming in a future patch, though a specific update hasn’t been noted. Level and world editors haven’t been included, and no future implementation date has been confirmed.
Commitment to Crossplay
Included with the celebratory announcement was a commitment to 7 Days to Die crossplay, which is currently unavailable. The highly requested feature would allow friends to play together regardless of the platform they use. Once implemented, crossplay may cause another surge in player numbers.
Final Thoughts
The 1.0 release of 7 Days to Die has been a monumental success, breaking player count records and bringing new features to enhance the gaming experience. While there are some missing features in the console versions, the commitment to updates and crossplay promises an even more engaging future for players. As the game continues to evolve, fans can look forward to more improvements and a continually growing community.
