Krafton, the South Korean gaming giant, has made a significant move to deepen its roots in the Indian gaming landscape by introducing Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh as a playable character in Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). This innovative fusion of gaming and Bollywood is not just a first for BGMI but also marks a new era of culturally tailored content for Indian gamers.
The Ranveer Singh Effect
In September 2023, Krafton named Ranveer Singh as BGMI’s brand ambassador. Extending this collaboration, the game’s latest update brings two 3D avatars of Singh – RS Dark Stealth and RS Swaggy Baba. The update also includes Ranveer-inspired emotes like Swagster Groove and Swagster Sway, adding a distinctive Bollywood flair to the game. This integration reflects Krafton’s strategic vision to localize content, making it more relatable to the Indian audience.
Engaging the Community
The latest BGMI update includes the Ranveer Singh Discovery event, offering a point-based system with rewards for participating in Classic mode matches. Running from December 1, 2023, to January 25, 2024, the event involves 50 stages and allows players to collect up to 5,000 points, with various in-game rewards like ornaments and parachutes.
“Play Pure with Ranveer Singh”
This special event further encourages player engagement through tasks like playing as Ranveer Singh, teaming up, and daily logins. Players earn RS tokens, which can be exchanged for permanent in-game rewards, enhancing the gaming experience.
Krafton’s Commitment to India
Krafton’s introduction of Singh’s character in BGMI aligns with its broader commitment to the Indian market. Earlier, the company introduced an Indian faction in ‘Road To Valor: Empires’, featuring characters from ancient Indian tales. In 2023, Krafton announced a $150 million investment in Indian gaming startups, elevating its total commitment to approximately $290 million.
Fostering Indian Gaming Talent
Krafton also launched the Krafton India Gaming Incubator in October 2023. This initiative aims to support Indian game development startups with financial assistance and mentorship, leveraging both local insights and global expertise from Krafton executives and industry experts.
Final Thoughts
Krafton’s integration of Ranveer Singh into BGMI is more than just adding a celebrity face; it’s a strategic move to culturally align with its Indian audience. This step, combined with their significant investments and the incubator program, positions Krafton as a pivotal player in shaping the future of the Indian gaming scene.
