Unauthorized access to computer material carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine not exceeding $50,000, or both. The Straits Times reported that the leaks originated from an account on X / Twitter, suggesting someone based in Singapore is behind the unauthorized distribution.

Details of the Leak

Earlier this month, clips from The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender appeared online months before its official premiere on Paramount+, which is set for October 9, 2026. The initial leaker claimed a friend from his hacker days provided a full copy of the movie, insisting he didn't realize its significance until later. After posting clips to social media, the entire film leaked on 4chan, with the original leaker tweeting, "Welp movie just got leaked on 4chan. GG."

Paramount had recently pulled the film from theaters, opting for an exclusive release on Paramount+. This decision surprised many fans, especially in light of the success of anime films like Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which grossed $774 million globally.

Avatar fans expressed disappointment over Paramount's decision to forgo a theatrical release. Michaela Jill Murphy, the original voice of Toph Beifong, criticized those justifying the leaks, stating, "they should avoid the leaks completely." Olivia Hack, voice of Ty Lee, supported calls for a theatrical release, urging Paramount to reconsider its decision.
