Key Changes in the Upcoming Update

The latest update for Menace introduces significant changes, including the removal of the promotion tax. This previously unpopular mechanic added a supply surcharge for promoting characters, which players found frustrating. According to Overhype, "This not-so-popular mechanic made sense from a game design perspective, but was very frustrating to engage with." The new system will allow for more rewarding promotions while maintaining different costs based on a character's star level.

Additionally, all units will now have the ability to clear wrecked vehicles, enhancing gameplay on cramped urban maps. The update also features a complete rework of the Construct enemy faction, which was deemed "severely lacking in uniqueness, variety, and style." Constructs will no longer sabotage unit morale; instead, they will employ different strategies to affect morale.

Reworked Construct Faction

The rework includes several notable changes. Construct Soldiers will lose their rocket attacks but will gain the ability to mark targets for drones and Guncrawlers. Guncrawlers will now be equipped with rocket launchers equivalent to the player's PAL tier 1 and will have a scanner skill to reduce concealment for affected player units. Furthermore, Shamblers will have an increased attack range of four tiles, making them more deadly.

Construct Drones will now scream when killed, potentially instilling fear in nearby enemies. Overall, Constructs will be less tanky and have lower accuracy, shifting their role in gameplay. Overhype stated they want to transition Constructs to do morale damage through other means, indicating a new strategy for these enemies.

Visual Improvements and Gameplay Enhancements

The update also includes a texture rework for the Construct faction to enhance their grotesque appearance and underline the "dead human body look a bit more." Additionally, players can expect replacement loot items for the Workshop, further expanding gameplay options. A new Construct support unit called the Master Unit has also been introduced, but details about its capabilities remain under wraps.

What This Means for Players

Community reaction to these changes has been cautiously optimistic, with players eager to experience the revamped gameplay mechanics. The removal of the promotion tax is particularly welcomed, as it should alleviate some of the previous frustrations associated with unit promotion. As the game moves closer to its release date, players can look forward to engaging with a more varied and visually distinct Construct faction.

Expect to see these changes implemented on April 22nd, when Menace officially launches. Keep an eye on updates from Overhype for more details on the new features and gameplay enhancements.
