Apex Legends, developed by Respawn Entertainment, is implementing a much-anticipated feature: cross-platform progression. The feature will be available starting from the new season, which goes live on October 31. This article aims to provide detailed insights into what this means for players, how to make the most of it, and other new changes coming to the game.

Cross-Platform Progression

Cross-platform progression allows players to maintain their game progress, irrespective of the gaming platform they use. Starting October 31, a message will appear in-game explaining how to enable this feature. To successfully manage the high volume of users, EA plans to roll out the feature in phases.

This has been a long-anticipated feature, with Respawn working on it since at least 2020. However, progress was delayed due to hacking issues that affected not only Apex Legends but also the Titanfall series.

Account Merging and Master Account

For this feature to work, players will need an EA ID, which is mandatory for playing Apex Legends on any platform. Your profile with the highest account level will be designated as your master or primary account. All cosmetics, achievements, and badges from other linked accounts will then be merged into this master account. There are some exceptions to this rule, which are not specified at this point.

If you play the game across multiple platforms, you will have consistent access to your cosmetics and currency. You’ll also make progress on the same battle pass whether you’re playing on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. However, if you only play on one platform, nothing will change for you, and you’ll retain stats only from your primary account.

New Playable Character: Conduit

A new playable character named Conduit is being introduced in the game. Conduit is a support character primarily focused on shields. Her tactical ability, Radiant Transfer, allows her to provide temporary extra shields to nearby teammates. If the teammates are out of range, her passive ability grants her a speed burst as she races towards them. Her ultimate ability, Energy Barricade, deploys a row of seven shield jammers that slow and damage enemies.

Conduit also has a connection to the Titanfall universe, as she carries a battery from a Titan on her back that powers her combat rig.

Changes to Storm Point Map

Respawn has made significant changes to the Storm Point map, including the addition of six new points of interest. Around 40% of the map has been modified to make it smaller, thereby encouraging players to engage with each other more frequently and deliver faster-paced action.

Modifications in Ranked Play

In another update, Respawn is lifting the restrictions on grouping up as a trio in Ranked play. This means players in the Bronze and Silver ranks can now play competitively with higher-ranked friends.

To mitigate account boosting, a new skill check system called promotional trials is being introduced. Those on the cusp of ranking up will need to complete specific challenges to prove their skill level. If they fail, they’ll get more chances but may also be demoted significantly if they perform poorly in multiple trial games.

Final Thoughts

The upcoming season of Apex Legends brings a wealth of changes and new features that are bound to enhance the gameplay experience. The long-awaited cross-platform progression feature, in particular, is a game-changer for those who play on multiple platforms.
