McDonald’s and Pokémon have teamed up once again to bring an exciting new Happy Meal promotion to fans in Japan. This time, the promotion is themed around Pokémon Horizons: The Series, the latest installment of the beloved Pokémon anime franchise. This new series, which began airing in Japan last April and made its way to the US via Netflix in March, shifts focus from the iconic Ash Ketchum to new protagonists Liko and Roy as they explore the region of Paldea and encounter new Pokémon from the 2022 games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
The New Pokémon Happy Meal Promotion
With Pokémon Horizons gaining popularity, McDonald’s has seized the opportunity to celebrate the show’s success with a special Happy Meal promotion. This promotion will feature two waves of exclusive toys inspired by Pokémon Horizons: The Series.
Wave 1: August 8-15
- Captain Pikachu’s Spinning Waterwheel: A fun water-themed toy featuring Captain Pikachu.
- Terrapagos’ Poké Ball Watering Can: A cute watering can topped with a plastic Terrapagos.
- Sprigatito’s Shovel Set: A toy shovel designed after the Grass-type starter Sprigatito from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
- Fuecoco’s Frisbee: A small frisbee featuring Fuecoco, the Fire-type starter.

The promotion will culminate in a third wave starting on August 23, during which remaining toys from the previous waves will be available to clear out inventory.
Previous Pokémon Happy Meal Promotions
This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has collaborated with Pokémon for a Happy Meal promotion. Over the past few decades, there have been numerous Pokémon-themed Happy Meal tie-ins, featuring a variety of toys and limited-edition trading cards. Recent promotions have included a festival-themed toy set in Japan last August and special cards featuring Pikachu and the Scarlet and Violet starters in September.
Global Availability
As of now, there is no confirmation whether this latest batch of Pokémon Happy Meal toys will be available outside of Japan. However, this promotion continues McDonald’s trend of offering video game-themed Happy Meals. Earlier this year, McDonald’s Japan featured Kirby plushies, while other regions enjoyed MultiVersus tins and puzzles.
Final Thoughts
The new Pokémon Happy Meal promotion by McDonald’s Japan is an exciting addition for fans of the franchise, especially those who have been following the new Pokémon Horizons: The Series. With two waves of unique and engaging toys, this promotion is set to attract both young fans and collectors alike. As McDonald’s continues to explore collaborations with popular video game franchises, fans worldwide eagerly await the possibility of these exclusive items becoming available in their regions.
