After its recent release, Lords of the Fallen faced significant performance issues that affected its reception. Developer Hexworks has released Patch Update 1.1.191 to address these problems. This article aims to provide an exhaustive review of the various aspects of the patch, detailing balance changes, visual adjustments, performance improvements, and specific fixes targeted at PC players.
Balance Changes Across Platforms
The patch introduces numerous balance changes applicable to all platforms. Bringers of Stillness and Scarlet Shadows have seen a reduction in the damage output of their gap-closing attacks. This is to ensure that their actions are not overly punishing. Charred Spirits, found in the lower city, have had their damage output slightly decreased from 80 to 64.
Walking corpses, a common enemy type, have also been adjusted. Their charged attack damage has been reduced from 1.18 to 0.8. The purpose behind this change is to align the danger represented by their animations with the actual damage they can inflict. Several other balance tweaks are included, aimed at making the game fairer and more enjoyable.
Changes Specific to Bosses
Bosses have also undergone modifications. The Spurned Progeny, for instance, has been tweaked to ensure that it never interrupts its combos, irrespective of player actions. Also, the arena of a trio of secret bosses has been adjusted to help them navigate better, making them more formidable opponents.
Visual Enhancements
Visual adjustments have been made to improve the game’s aesthetic appeal. For example, Pieta chest armor, which had lost some of its IDs for tincts after optimization, has now been corrected. Various other visual elements, such as the animation of the nanite mesh on the 3D Gallery background, have been fixed.
Performance Upgrades
Performance is a critical aspect of any game, and this patch addresses several issues in this domain. The VFX of the Barrage of Echoes eyeballs explosion, which previously affected performance negatively, has been rectified. Other performance-related improvements are also part of this update.
PC-Specific Fixes
A substantial section of this patch focuses on addressing the issues PC players have faced. Four main problems have been identified and addressed: outdated GPU drivers, Frame Generation stability, unidentified GPU crashes, and crashes after the first cinematic. For instance, upon launch, the game will now check for updated GPU drivers and prompt an update if required.
Final Thoughts
This patch is a commendable effort by Hexworks to tackle the performance-related challenges that plagued Lords of the Fallen since its launch. It not only provides much-needed fixes but also balances gameplay elements to improve the overall experience.
