About Steam Controller
Valve confirmed the Steam Controller's price and release date, set for May 4th. This announcement comes alongside discussions about the development of the Steam Deck 2 and efforts to maintain stock levels for current Steam Decks amid ongoing supply challenges.
Steam Deck 2 Development
Valve is actively working on the Steam Deck 2, with programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais stating, "We're hard at work on it." The team aims to ensure that the next iteration is a significant performance upgrade over its predecessor. They have not rushed the announcement of a release window, choosing to focus on delivering a product that meets player expectations.
Current Stock Issues
Ongoing memory shortages, referred to as RAMnarök, have complicated the availability of current Steam Decks. Griffais noted that this is "something that [Valve are] working very hard on" and emphasized their efforts to collaborate with multiple manufacturers to mitigate the impact of these shortages. He acknowledged that "the conditions around memory are pretty global right now, so there's only so much that we can do," reflecting the broader challenges facing the hardware industry.
