About Fairgame$

Announced in 2023, Fairgame$ is the debut title from PlayStation’s Haven Studios. Originally described as a competitive heist experience, the game hasn’t been in the public eye since its reveal, and we're approaching the three-year anniversary of that announcement. It's set to release on PS5 and PC in 2026, although specific details about its genre remain unclear.

New Gameplay Features

A recent report indicates that Fairgame$ is pivoting to include an extraction mode, a move designed to capitalize on the growing popularity of extraction shooters. Insider Gaming revealed key gameplay mechanics that will be featured in the game. Players will engage in three main activities:

  • Break In – Players must find a vault code to access the safe, allowing them to collect cash, upgrade their skillset, and strategize their next move.
  • Drill – Once the vault is breached, teams will compete to grab the cargo or set up strategies to intercept other players.
  • Extract – To win, players must transport the cargo to the Extraction Site. They can use an Extraction device to call for their ride home, but if their team fails to extract the cargo, they must find an alternate escape route.

The 2023 trailer showcased slick CGI visuals and highlighted the heist gameplay, featuring multiple teams of three battling over loot. The addition of extraction mechanics suggests that the game is still trying to find its unique niche, even if it borrows from other genres.

What This Means for Players

The shift towards extraction-style gameplay could draw comparisons to popular titles like Escape From Tarkov and Marathon, making it a notable entry in a competitive space. However, the community’s skepticism regarding Sony's handling of several studios and titles this generation adds uncertainty to the game's future. As Fairgame$ aims for a free-to-play model, its success will largely depend on how well it can carve out a space in the multiplayer market by 2026.

Despite the long silence and prior criticism regarding development, this new direction could reinvigorate interest among players. If the extraction mechanics are executed well, they might provide the gameplay depth needed to attract and retain a dedicated player base.
