About MindsEye

MindsEye is developed by Build a Rocket Boy. The game offers players a unique blend of creativity and collaboration, allowing for user-generated content within its immersive environment.

New AI Feature: Arcadia Voice

Mark Gerhard and Leslie Benzies, the co-CEOs of Build a Rocket Boy, recently vibe-coded an in-game voice assistant called Arcadia Voice for MindsEye. This feature allows for voice control, enabling players to interact with the game in a new way. However, the implementation has drawn sharp criticism, as it seems to replicate functionality that the Xbox Kinect provided back in 2010.

Community Reaction

The community response has been overwhelmingly negative. The feature is unanimously hated by the MindsEye player base, which is quite telling, considering it includes even the 20 players who still actively engage with the game. Many players have described the AI feature as cringe-worthy, indicating a disconnect between the developers and their audience.

Developer Response

In response to the backlash, Will Jones, the Head of AI, attempted to reassure players through a statement posted on X. He emphasized that AI features like Arcadia Voice will not replace the necessary craft of developers, stating, "We know that these will never replace the craft of developers, designers, artists, QA, or performers who care about what they are building (in fact, the coding agent is only useful because of the powerful system and beautiful assets already made by our colleagues)." He further asserted that "Games are creative, collaborative, and deeply human." This response reflects an effort to acknowledge community concerns while defending the use of AI in game development.
