Excitement Mixed with Skepticism
At CinemaCon 2026, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced plans for an animated film adaptation of Bloodborne, sparking reactions from fans that range from mild enthusiasm to outright skepticism. Many question the timing of the announcement, especially since there has been no remaster of the original game, which remains a favorite among players.
Details about the film remain limited. The movie will be R-rated and co-produced by Lyrical Animation, PlayStation Productions, and content creator Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin. Jacksepticeye publicly expressed his excitement about the project, stating that he intends to make it the best Bloodborne adaptation possible.
Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment, assured attendees that the film would be “very true” to the original game. However, that promise hasn’t quelled all concerns.
Social media chatter reflects the mixed feelings surrounding the announcement. One user humorously remarked, “Sony just INVENTING WAYS TO NOT REMASTER BLOODBORNE.” This sentiment echoes among fans who feel a film adaptation should have been preceded by a remastered version of the game.
Jacksepticeye’s enthusiasm is evident; he has been vocal about his love for Bloodborne for over a decade. His public admiration, illustrated by his three Bloodborne tattoos, establishes his dedication to the source material.
Despite this, some fans cite the lack of involvement from FromSoftware, the game's developer, as a major concern. Questions about the direction and writing of the film also linger, as Sony has yet to announce any key personnel involved.
Fans are left hoping for further announcements that could involve Hidetaka Miyazaki or the original development team. Until then, the film’s merit remains uncertain, with many preferring tangible updates about the game itself.
