Surprise! Starting today, 28th April, you can download a free demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S. Any progress made during the demo will carry over when the full game launches for these platforms on 3rd June. As an added bonus, players with demo save data on their devices will receive a 'kupo charm' for Moogle fans and a 'survival set' that includes bonus healing items, which will be helpful during the early stages of the game.

The demo offers a substantial portion of the game, featuring the first two of Rebirth's 14 chapters. Chapter 1 centers around Cloud's memories of the infamous Nibelheim incident, while Chapter 2 shifts to the present day as the party arrives in Kalm, regrouping after their escape from Midgar at the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

As you dive into the demo, you’ll experience the early parts of the story and some semi-open areas, including your first games of Queen's Blood, a new mini-game that adds an engaging time sink. The demo weighs in at 45GB on the Nintendo Switch 2 and 91GB on the Xbox Series X/S, so be prepared for a sizable download.

Technical Performance

Curious about how the game performs on the Nintendo Switch 2? I had the chance to try out the demo recently, and I can confidently say it feels magical. According to my preview, this demo represents a better technical feat than even Final Fantasy 7 Remake. "The particle effects, the magic effects, the 30fps framerate (which is perfectly fine for a game like this, thank you very much) - all of it feels just as at home on Switch 2 as it ever did on PS5. Somehow," I noted.
