New Breach by ShinyHunters
Rockstar Games has once again become a target for hackers, this time from the notorious group known as ShinyHunters. They claim to have breached the company's security and are now holding sensitive information for ransom, threatening to leak it if their demands are not met.
Exploiting Vulnerabilities
According to Cyber Security Guru, the breach occurred after ShinyHunters exploited a vulnerability in Anodot, an AI analytics tool used by multiple companies, including Rockstar. Anodot helps optimize cloud hosting by tracking real-time costs and spending, but its deep integration into a company's security systems may have allowed the hackers to access sensitive data.
By gaining “authentication tokens,” the hackers could access Rockstar’s Snowflake data warehouse without raising any alarms. This access let them extract a significant amount of data before the breach was detected, demonstrating the severity of the security flaw.
A Long History of Breaches
ShinyHunters is not new to this game; they have successfully infiltrated the networks of major companies like Microsoft, Wattpad, and AT&T over the past few years. Now, they have issued an ultimatum to Rockstar: pay the ransom, or face a public data leak.
Cyberpunk 2077 Aesthetic
The group reportedly sent a message to Rockstar that incorporates design elements directly inspired by the video game Cyberpunk 2077. This choice of aesthetic may seem childish for a professional hacking group, but it highlights their willingness to flaunt their exploits in a provocative manner.
