Hogwarts Legacy, the highly-anticipated open-world action role-playing game set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, has exceeded expectations and achieved unprecedented success in the UK. In just five weeks, the game has surpassed the lifetime sales of Elden Ring, the highly-anticipated action role-playing game from Dark Souls developer FromSoftware.

The game was developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and was released on February 25, 2023, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1800s and allows players to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a student, where they can create their own character and explore the magical world, learning spells and potions, dueling with other students, and uncovering secrets hidden within the school and its surroundings.

Elden Ring, on the other hand, is a collaboration between FromSoftware and Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, and was released on January 21, 2023, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set in a dark fantasy world and follows the player's journey to reunite the shattered Elden Ring and restore order to the land.

While both games were highly anticipated and generated a lot of buzz prior to their release, it seems that Hogwarts Legacy has come out on top in terms of sales. According to the latest sales figures from GfK Entertainment, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 1.5 million copies in the UK alone, while Elden Ring's lifetime sales stand at just over 1 million.
