Emerging Potential for Survival Mechanics

Crimson Desert, known for its stunning visuals and expansive open world, may soon offer more than just grappling hooks and bear rides. Recently released hunger system mods have sparked excitement among players, suggesting a shift toward a more survival-oriented gameplay experience.

Having recently joined the Crimson Desert community, I found myself captivated by the game's lush environments. Early on, I stumbled upon scenes of players engaging in fishing and gathering, which led me to ponder the potential for a more immersive survival experience. The world feels tailor-made for players who enjoy camping and resource management.

Mod Innovations

Various mods are already enhancing the survival aspects of Crimson Desert. One notable example is a food risk mod, which introduces consequences like poison and nausea from consuming spoiled food. Another mod, Be Hungry, imposes penalties for skipping meals. These features align perfectly with my vision of a survival system where cooking and eating are not just optional, but essential for thriving in the game's environment.

The current cooking mechanics are enjoyable, and while eating has its benefits, adding critical survival elements would elevate the experience. Imagine preparing a mysterious dish only to face severe digestive repercussions—sounds fun, right? That level of risk could make the culinary aspects of the game much more engaging.

Wilderness Living and Camping

One of my hopes is for a camping system that allows players more freedom when it comes to resting. Currently, players can unlock a player house or sleep in beds found throughout the world. However, the idea of setting up a placeable bedroll while on an adventure appeals to me. No one wants to walk into a stranger's home to catch some sleep—it lacks immersion.

As I explored, I discovered a few idyllic spots, like a crumbling shack on a small island and a ruined church in the woods. It felt like a missed opportunity that these locations didn't provide basic amenities like a cot or a bedroll. Offering a way to sleep in more remote areas would encourage players to embrace the wilderness vibe and enhance the survival experience.

Desires for Future Features

The addition of an item degradation system would also enhance the survival feel of the game. Players would have to repair their tools and gear, making resource management even more critical. While it's unclear how feasible these ideas are for modders—especially with Pearl Abyss's current stance on mod support—it's encouraging to see players taking the initiative with the mods that already exist.

While Pearl Abyss hasn’t announced plans for deeper survival mechanics, the community's enthusiasm for mods brings hope. As I continue to engage with Crimson Desert, I find myself eagerly anticipating what the modding community will deliver in the future. For now, I’m content with the thrill of food poisoning amid a world where I can also fly and ride bears.
