First animated Pokémon feature in seven years due in 2027
The Pokémon Company has announced Pokémon: Wild Card, the franchise's first theatrical animated film since 2020, set to arrive in 2027 and beyond. Produced by CloverWorks and directed by Katsuhiko Kitada, the 25th movie in the series will center on a Pokémon TCG player and their Mimikyu partner, marking the first animated film without Ash Ketchum.
The 2026 Pokémon World Championships and PokémonXP convention delivered a cascade of franchise announcements, from the first animated film in seven years to the 2027 Worlds heading to Singapore. New Z-Mega Evolutions arrive in Pokémon Champions this September, while Armored Mewtwo returns to Pokémon GO after a six-year absence.
