Mortal Kombat 1 has been ambitious in reinventing its character roster. While some characters have undergone minor changes, like Kenshi collaborating with the yakuza, others have been overhauled entirely. One character, in particular, seems to be set on a path that many fans may find predictable: Sub-Zero, or Bi-Han in the current timeline.
Reshaping the Narrative and Characters
Mortal Kombat 1 is putting a fresh spin on almost every character, from turning Scorpion into Kuai Liang to smaller tweaks like Kenshi's affiliations. However, the game seems to be hinting that despite these changes, some characters are destined to take certain paths. The classic example here is Shang Tsung's inevitable evil turn.
Sub-Zero's Not-So-Subtle Shift
Since the game's first trailer, it's been obvious that Sub-Zero, or Bi-Han in this timeline, will eventually turn evil. His dialogues with newly introduced characters further highlight this transformation, practically spoiling the "twist" in the storyline.
The Dialogue that Gives It Away
In a pre-fight dialogue, as shared by YouTuber unCAGEDgamez, Johnny Cage confronts Sub-Zero about his turn towards malevolence. When questioned why he went "rogue," Sub-Zero doesn't mince words. He makes it explicitly clear that he's after "power, not fame," setting the stage for his eventual transformation into Noob Saibot.
Probability of Becoming Noob Saibot
This dialogue leaves little room for doubt regarding Sub-Zero's intentions. While there's a slight possibility of him wavering between good and evil, the narrative clues indicate that he will likely become Noob Saibot.
