About PokéNational Geographic
Elious, the creator behind the popular Pokémon nature documentary YouTube series PokéNational Geographic, has announced that his channel will be deleted by YouTube within seven days due to a series of copyright strikes from Nintendo of America. Elious has nearly 100,000 subscribers and has been producing videos since 2023, focusing on original 3D animations of various Pokémon paired with David Attenborough-style narration.
Copyright Strikes Overview
In a recent video on his alternate channel, Elious reported that Nintendo issued multiple copyright strikes on a total of 20 videos within just 12 hours. The strikes claim that his channel is inappropriately using content from Pokémon video games, including audiovisual works, characters, and imagery. Despite this, Elious asserts that the only content taken directly from the games was 'tiny sprite roars' lasting less than three seconds.
He noted that he has produced content without issue for years and expressed frustration that many other Pokémon creators and even AI-generated channels use similar materials without facing penalties. "I can’t really fight this," Elious states, acknowledging the legitimacy of the strikes, saying, "It all seems legitimate, it does seem to come from the actual, real Nintendo of America."
The Impact of the Strikes
The impending deletion means Elious will lose nearly three years of work and a dedicated audience. He mentioned, "PokéNational is dead. I’m not going to be able to make PokéNational again," highlighting the emotional toll this decision has on him. Elious also expressed that he is willing to delete all Pokémon-related videos if asked, but he wishes he could retain his subscriber base for future projects.
Despite the setback, Elious plans to continue producing content on a new channel, EliousEntertainmentYT, although it will not focus on Pokémon. Clips from his videos remain available on his TikTok page, allowing fans to still engage with his creativity.
