Crashes Plaguing Players
Starfield's debut on PS5 has drawn comparisons to Bethesda's past launch troubles, as numerous players report frequent crashes and game freezes. This resurgence of technical issues has led some fans to seek refunds, expressing their frustration over the game's state.
One player detailed their experience on the Starfield subreddit, stating, "I’m getting crashes every 2 minutes. Tried everything. Delete saves. Tried performance 30 and 60 fps. Delete the game n redownload it. And it’s still happening." Many players echo similar sentiments, particularly when dealing with save files that are further along in the game.
Reports indicate that both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro are experiencing bugs, including slowdowns and complete system freezes. "I’ve shelved it," commented another frustrated player. "I’ve called their tech support line and left a message and submitted a ticket." These issues have compelled players to consider whether their investment in the game was worth it.
One user shared on social media, "Ok Starfield on PS5 Pro crashed again. This time about 1 hour in. Settings: Performance, 60, Vsync On." Clearly, even adjusting settings hasn't mitigated the crashing problems for many.
Players are expressing disappointment, with one noting this experience as their worst with a Bethesda title since the infamous launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on PS3. After nearly three years of anticipation following its debut on Xbox Series X/S and PC, many expected a smoother launch for the PS5 port.
Digital Foundry’s analysis further highlighted the significant number of issues that need urgent attention. Although there’s a day-one update available for the PS5 version, it hasn’t managed to resolve the crashing and save-related problems. With the launch coinciding with a major free update for other platforms and the new Terran Armada expansion, Bethesda appears to have a lot on its plate right now.
