About Assassin's Creed Hexe
Assassin's Creed Hexe is the upcoming title in the iconic Assassin's Creed franchise. Developed by Ubisoft, it will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The game promises to offer a different experience from the recent open-world, action-RPG entries that began with 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins.
Leadership Departures Raise Concerns
As reported by IGN, game director Benoit Richer has left Assassin's Creed Hexe, marking the second director-level departure this year. Richer announced his career move on LinkedIn and is now a co-founder of Servo Games, alongside three other former Ubisoft developers. Creative director Clint Hocking previously departed on February 25, and Jean Guesden, the director of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, took his place.
Back-to-back departures in a team's senior leadership rarely indicate a positive development environment. Ubisoft has not yet announced Richer's replacement as game director.
What We Know About Hexe
Assassin's Creed Hexe remains shrouded in mystery. The game features distinctly witchy vibes, as suggested by its title and the creepy twig version of the Assassin log showcased in its 2022 reveal trailer. Ubisoft describes it as a different kind of game, moving away from the open-world, action-RPG format that has defined the series in recent years.
Marc-Alexis Côté, the franchise's former overall boss, left Ubisoft last year amid a contentious departure, suing the company for $1.3 million Canadian in damages, alleging hostile working conditions.
