Set Footage Leaked Online
Footage from the set of Alex Garland’s upcoming Elden Ring movie has surfaced, after a content creator spotted the set in a seemingly ordinary English field. While some have questioned the legitimacy of this footage, Kotaku managed to connect with the original uploader and verify the existence of additional clips.
Project Background
Announced in May 2025, the Elden Ring movie has garnered significant attention, particularly due to its approval by Hidetaka Miyazaki. Garland presented a 160-page draft to Miyazaki, solidifying the project's foundation. Since the announcement, details have been scarce, aside from a few casting choices, including Ben Whishaw and Cailee Spaeny, who will take on undisclosed roles.
Production Timeline
Initially, production company A24 planned to begin filming in 2026, but no specific dates have surfaced yet. However, the recent video shared by THROX, a streamer on TikTok, suggests that fans may soon receive updates on the film's principal photography.
THROX clarified that their discovery was not entirely by chance; a friend first spotted the set and shared the information. They have also uploaded additional footage, showcasing various locations on the set that resonate with elements from the game.
In an effort to connect the set footage to the game’s lore, I attempted to match the Church of Marika seen in THROX’s video with locations in Elden Ring. While none align perfectly, speculation suggests that the film may serve as a prequel, potentially featuring a less-ruined version of the Second Church of Marika.
Visual and Thematic Elements
The aesthetic presented in THROX's videos seems reminiscent of Limgrave, which is a smart move for the production team. By shooting in England, they can naturally capture the game’s bleak atmosphere without excessive reliance on visual effects.
Looking Ahead
As anticipation builds for the Elden Ring movie, fans are left eager for more revelations about the film's plot and characters. With this early footage, the excitement surrounding the project is palpable, and it’s clear that Garland’s vision may be bringing a unique perspective to the beloved game.
