New Gameplay Features in Xeno Arena

No Man's Sky's latest update, Xeno Arena, introduces turn-based creature battles, taking inspiration from classic games like Pokémon. Players can now raise, train, and battle the alien creatures they've encountered across various planets.

According to developer Hello Games, this update transforms previously passive wildlife into active participants in gameplay. "Most of the planets you’ve visited in your travels have always been teeming with wildlife," the team stated. "Now, for the first time, those creatures are not just your companions, but your squad and maybe your champions!" This new dimension adds a strategic layer to exploration.

Sean Murray, the chief of Hello Games, emphasized the importance of variety in the game's universe. Players can now discover and collect creatures with unique abilities, ranging from dinosaur-like beings to robotic creatures. He explained, "What if you could collect them, breed them, have them as pets... but also battle them?" This vision has materialized with Xeno Arena, offering a fresh approach to the longstanding exploration mechanics.

The gameplay involves assembling a team of creature companions, each with its own set of moves influenced by its species and native environment. Players can deepen their bonds with these creatures through training and genetic modification, creating new variants and enhancing their strengths. The satisfaction of nurturing a creature from a simple find to an arena champion is a core aspect of this update.

Holo-Arenas, where players can engage in battles, have been added to various locations, including Space Stations and planetary outposts. Here, players can challenge each other or NPCs for rewards, creating a new competitive element within No Man's Sky. Winning these battles grants valuable resources and opportunities to take on more challenging foes.
