Volii Alpha is a distinctive planet within the Starfield universe. Unlike other planetary bodies, it is entirely covered in water and hosts Neon, one of the four major cities in the game, on a large offshore platform. Due to its unique characteristics, traditional surveying methods don't apply here. Nevertheless, players can successfully complete the survey if they understand the specifics of where to look and how to proceed.

Accessing the Ocean: The Two Ways

The Landing Pad Jump

Players have two primary options for accessing the ocean below Neon City. The first is to leap off the side of the landing pad. Video game physics dictate that landing in water nullifies falling damage. Additionally, even if that weren't the case, a boost pack can help cancel a player's falling speed. After reaching the ocean, fast travel enables a quick return to central Neon.

The Ebbside Elevators

An alternative route involves using elevators from Ebbside, which is accessible via the main strip in central Neon. After entering Ebbside, two elevators lead to a lower platform bustling with fishing businesses. A third elevator near Generdyne Industries takes players down to a dock just above the water line. Interestingly, the area beneath the lower platform offers a means of bypassing security for those looking to smuggle contraband like Aurora.

Identifying Fauna in Volii Alpha

Locating the Fish Species

In Volii Alpha, the main objective is to scan two specific types of aquatic life: the hunting sharkwhale and the chasmbass. Players may find these fish swimming beneath the supporting structures of Neon City. Because they may not be immediately close to the dock, exploration and the use of a boost pack may be required.

Scanning at Any Distance

Unlike standard fauna scanning that requires proximity, players can scan these particular fish species from any distance. This feature simplifies the scanning process to some extent.
