Scavenging Treasures from the Sand
Treasure Beach offers a unique twist on the scavenger genre, inviting players to rummage through sandy shores in search of hidden treasures. The demo, part of Steam's Hidden Objects festival, showcases this quirky game's charm. Players can discover a range of items, from luxury watches to mysterious pill bottles. However, the real challenge lies in the art of bartering with the notoriously stingy shoppers.
The Challenge of Selling
Once you've collected your treasures, the next step is to restore them for sale at your beach shop. This involves polishing, drying, and, in some cases, cleaning off sand from electronic items. The thrill of setting up shop comes with its own set of challenges, particularly when it comes to negotiating prices. Players quickly learn that getting fair value for their finds isn't as straightforward as it seems.
Bartering with Shoppers
During my playthrough, I encountered a variety of shoppers, each with their own price expectations. For instance, I managed to sell a luxury watch for 32 gold after a tense negotiation. But not every deal was lucrative. A casual offer of just two gold for a mystery bottle of pills made me question the buyer's judgment. Similarly, an offer of five gold for a boarding pass to Amsterdam left me incredulous, considering the current flight prices.
Waiting for the Right Buyer
Bartering is a key component of Treasure Beach, and players must be prepared for a give-and-take experience. While I did manage to sell some items, such as a storybook and binoculars, others lingered unsold, such as the coveted boarding passes. The game cleverly incorporates a waiting game, as players must remain patient for the right buyer to come along.
Enhancing the Shop
To improve my chances of making sales, I purchased an incense holder for my shop, which aimed to increase shopper patience during negotiations. This additional element adds strategy to the gameplay, as players must consider how to enhance their shop to attract better offers and, ultimately, more gold.
A Snapshot of Quirky Fun
Despite its short demo, Treasure Beach provides a fun and engaging experience. The blend of scavenging and bartering creates a light-hearted atmosphere while presenting genuine challenges. For those intrigued by its unique mechanics, the demo is available on Steam during the Hidden Objects fest. It's worth checking out, especially if you're looking for a fresh take on scavenger games.
