Niantic, the developer of the popular augmented reality game Pokemon GO, has started building excitement for the upcoming September 2024 Community Day by teasing the featured Pokémon, Ponyta, and its Galarian variant. The event is set to bring new opportunities for players to catch these fan-favorite Pokémon, along with special in-game bonuses and rewards.
A Glimpse into September 2024 Community Day
On August 20, 2024, Niantic took to Twitter to tease the star of the upcoming Community Day. The brief clip shared by the studio showcased Ponyta and its Galarian variant galloping through a picturesque meadow. The teaser, which concluded with a prominent Community Day banner, left no room for doubt, confirming that Ponyta will be the featured Pokémon for September's event. The inclusion of the hashtag #PokemonGOCommunityDay further solidified this announcement.
The September Community Day is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024. While Niantic has not provided exhaustive details about the event's schedule, it is anticipated to follow the usual Community Day timings, likely running from 2 PM to 5 PM local time. This three-hour window will be a golden opportunity for trainers to catch both Kanto and Galarian Ponyta, with an increased likelihood of encountering their shiny forms.
Special Moves and In-Game Bonuses
As with previous Community Days, players can expect to benefit from evolving either variant of Ponyta during the event to obtain a Rapidash with a special, exclusive move. Although Niantic has not yet disclosed what this move will be, it is expected to be a unique attack that is only available during the event. Historically, these exclusive moves have also been accessible up to five hours after the event concludes, allowing trainers some flexibility in their evolution strategy.
In addition to the special move, the September Community Day is anticipated to offer a range of in-game bonuses. Players can likely look forward to extended durations for Lures and Incense, both of which may last for three hours during the event. Moreover, increased Candy and Candy XL rewards for catching Pokémon are expected, making it an excellent opportunity to stock up on resources. Trainers may also enjoy the chance to perform an additional Special Trade on September 14, with a reduced Stardust cost—a perk that has become a staple of Community Day events.
