The Calm After the Battle
Crimson Desert’s expansive world has captivated players with its immersive story and gameplay, but some are now expressing concerns that the game has become too peaceful. After hundreds of hours of play, players have reported that they've effectively eliminated many of the enemies populating the world, leading to an emptiness that detracts from the experience.
One of the game's unique design aspects is the lack of enemy respawns. In contrast to titles like Skyrim, where dungeons and bandit camps regenerate, once players clear an area in Crimson Desert, it often stays clear. This design choice has sparked frustration for players who enjoy combat and are now struggling to find enough enemies to face, particularly in the endgame.
A Reddit user, known as GullibleTerm3909, shared their experience, stating, "This game has a pretty big issue… it will destroy some people's enjoyment, including my own." They highlighted the challenge of engaging with maxed-out gear and abilities when there are fewer foes to combat. After spending over 100 hours in the game, they found themselves devoid of meaningful conflict.
Another player echoed similar sentiments, noting that with the game's design, even the two additional playable characters lack the necessary combat experience to develop fully. This limits the players' ability to explore all gameplay options. The community's call for change includes a plea for systems that would allow the foes to repopulate or for the introduction of random events to keep the atmosphere lively.
Some suggestions have included a revival of the Nemesis system from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor or a more dynamic quest system akin to that found in Bethesda games. However, it raises the question of whether Crimson Desert can effectively support these mechanics given its current structure. Players have even resorted to unconventional methods, like committing crimes to provoke guards, just to experience some combat.
Interestingly, not all players share this frustration. Some have even mocked the complaints, suggesting that reaching such an extreme point in gameplay is uncommon. The sheer volume of content in Crimson Desert means that most players may not encounter the issues faced by those who have played for an extensive period.
Despite these complaints, there’s potential for Pearl Abyss to implement significant updates or expansions based on player feedback. With the game's strong sales, additional content may be on the horizon, which could address these concerns and enrich the player experience further.
