Fans of the Battlefield series may have discovered the real-world location featured in the newly revealed concept art for the upcoming installment of the popular first-person shooter. The speculation centers around a historically significant region that has previously appeared in earlier games of the franchise.
At Electronic Arts' Investor Day event, the company shared more details about the next Battlefield game, including its return to a modern-day setting and plans for a community testing program in early 2025. Alongside these announcements, EA also unveiled the first piece of concept art for the game, depicting a war-torn city. While EA didn’t specify the exact location in the image, some eagle-eyed fans believe they’ve cracked the code.
Gibraltar as the Possible Setting
Many fans are convinced that the new Battlefield game might be set in Gibraltar, the British territory situated at the southern tip of Spain. This theory was first put forward by TheTacticalBrit, a content creator, who pointed out striking similarities between the concept art and Gibraltar's geography. Their observations were backed by Tom Henderson, a prominent video game journalist and industry insider, who agreed that Gibraltar could indeed be the location depicted.
The reason behind this guess? Gibraltar has always held great strategic importance due to its position as a bridge between Europe and Africa. This real-world significance could lend itself well to the game’s narrative, especially since a map based on Gibraltar has already appeared in Battlefield 2142—a fan-favorite entry in the series.
What the Concept Art Reveals
The concept art doesn’t just give away potential clues about the setting—it also hints at gameplay mechanics. Fans have noticed the image suggests large-scale battles involving ship-to-ship and helicopter combat. If this is true, it would align well with the series' past focus on combining vehicular and infantry warfare. Additionally, there’s speculation that natural disasters could be part of the gameplay, a feature that was previously introduced in Battlefield 2042.
