Overwatch 2 continues to innovate with its cosmetics, and Reinhardt’s Bound Demon Mythic weapon skin just received a major upgrade. As of the mid-Season 12 update on September 17, players will notice a unique glowing rune effect surrounding the Ultimate meter when equipped with Reinhardt’s Bound Demon skin. This visual addition has sparked excitement within the Overwatch community, adding yet another level of reactivity to the game’s first-ever Mythic weapon skin.

A Mythic Skin With More Than Just Looks

The Bound Demon Mythic skin for Reinhardt was initially introduced during Season 11’s mid-season update on July 23. The skin already stood out due to its on-kill effects, kill streak reactivity, and unique weapon flourish animations. However, the recent update has taken things a step further, with the new rune HUD effect providing visual feedback tied to Reinhardt’s Earthshatter Ultimate.

As Reinhardt builds a kill streak, orange-red runes appear in a circle around his Ultimate meter, expanding and becoming more intense as players score more kills. These runes not only enhance the skin’s aesthetic but also provide visual cues that complement the skin’s transformative design as Reinhardt racks up eliminations. Overwatch Cavalry showcased the rune effects in action on Twitter, giving fans a preview of the impressive visual transformation during gameplay.

Enhancing the Mythic Experience

The rune HUD effect is presumably unlocked in the second tier of the Bound Demon skin, aligning with the weapon’s reactivity as Reinhardt reaches kill streak thresholds. While the addition is visually striking, it comes at a cost—players must spend 60 Mythic Prisms to unlock the skin’s upgrades. That translates to a $50 value, or a significant portion of the rewards earned through a Premium Battle Pass.
