Thirteen years after its original airing, "Rick Potion #9" remains the episode that transformed Rick and Morty from a clever sci-fi parody into a series willing to confront genuine existential horror. The sixth episode of season one introduced the show's multiverse mechanics through a catastrophic love potion accident that forced Rick and Morty to abandon their reality entirely. That decision established the nihilistic core philosophy that would drive the series' best storytelling for over a decade.
Rick and Morty's Season 9, Episode 5, "Jer Bud", attempts to revisit a classic character but falters in execution, making Snowball's return feel like a missed opportunity. While the Morty/Snowball storyline underwhelms, the Worm Jerry subplot shines with its bizarre humor. The episode's inconsistent quality makes it the weakest of Season 9 so far.
