"When we tried allowing you full control of your companions as well, what we've found is it wasn't actually adding to the experience. In fact, in some ways it was detrimental," Busche stated. The Veilguard introduces an "action wheel" that allows players to influence certain aspects of companion behavior during combat. This tool provides a balance, giving players some degree of strategic input without overwhelming them with micromanagement. Busche acknowledged that long-time fans of the series might find this change jarring at first. "I will admit that, on paper, if you just read that you have no ability to control your companions, that might feel like something was taken away," she said. However, she reassured players that testing has shown this system keeps players more engaged and focused on their own character's actions.
