Ubisoft confirmed in January 2026 that Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in active development after 19 years, making it the longest-running project on a new list of five games trapped in development limbo. The list also includes Squadron 42, Project Awakening, Grand Theft Auto 6, and The Wolf Among Us 2, each with their own troubled histories and uncertain release windows.
Ubisoft has removed its controversial claim that monetization makes games "more fun" from its latest annual report, following widespread criticism. The move comes as the publisher faces challenges with lengthy development cycles for titles like Skull and Bones, Prince of Persia remake, and Beyond Good & Evil 2. Average wages at Ubisoft are also down, sparking further scrutiny.
