Final Fantasy 14 launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4th with a massive 117.2 GB file size and the full free trial experience intact. The port introduces the new Bastion tank class wielding dual greatshields called skyltborg alongside the Evercold expansion and Godless Realms Saga story arc. A separate subscription is required, though dual subscribers receive a 50 percent discount on the Switch 2 version.
Final Fantasy 14's director Naoki Yoshida revealed that the newest expansion, Evercold, almost didn't follow the series' 12-year compound word naming tradition. Yoshida had alternative names in mind, including Absolute Zero for Evercold, which was ultimately rejected. The expansion promises a unique icy journey for the Warriors of Light.
